This website has been set up to provide a resource to anybody wanting information and advice surrounding anything to do with Human Rights.
Human Rights are the fundamental privileges, basic rights and civil liberties afforded to every man, woman and child, simply for being born a human being.
They apply irrespective of who you are, where you are from or how you choose to live your life and are based on shared values, such as fairness, dignity, equality, respect and independence and can not be taken away.
These rights and liberties are outlined and protected by international and domestic law. In the UK, for instance, our rights are defended by the Human Rights Act 1998. In some cases human rights can be limited, for example, if somebody breaks the law or in the interests of national security.
However, as declared in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the European Convention of Human Rights, (amongst other international laws and constitutions), everybody is entitled to a fair trial, meaning anybody charged with a criminal offence has the right to a fair trial, to be held in public and within a reasonable timescale.
